ARTIST STATEMENT

Marije Dijkstra’s work is based on the research of landscapes. She is a textile artist, designer and researcher with a focus on finding new colours, materials and methods in the field of natural dyeing of textiles.

She is currently working on an ongoing research project about the natural dyeing of textiles with local clay, mud and silt from different landscapes and locations. A project evolving from one of her previous projects KLAAIKLÚT, which was about exploring the material options using silt found in the north of the Netherlands, the area Marije grew up in.

With her work she aims to raise awareness on the value of local materials and their overlooked possibilities. Her projects do not only tell the stories of the materials and landscapes around us, but also aim to make people reconnect with the landscape around them and the soil that’s underneath our feet.

She is currently doing her Master of Fine Arts in Fashion and Textile Design with specialisation in Textile Design at the Swedish School of Textiles, Borås.
